Delpatch™ Trial Installation at Melbourne Airport

May 23, 2025 2:50:44 PM / by D.S. Brown

You need to keep a busy airport open. The spall repair on your runway can’t wait. D.S. Brown provides Delpatch™ Elastomeric Concrete as a solution.

During a recent visit to Australia, Uriah Carpenter and Tom Lewis of D.S. Brown, in collaboration with Avionics Limited, successfully completed a trial installation of Delpatch Elastomeric Concrete on a taxiway at Melbourne Airport, which handles over 30 million passengers per year.

The repair at Melbourne Airport was 7 meters long x 0.25 meters wide with a depth of 5 centimeters. Following the primers curing, 52 liters of Delpatch were mixed and placed in 10 minutes, allowing the return of traffic to the taxiway one hour after installation.

Timeline of Events:

  • 10:00 A.M.: Melbourne Airport maintenance team cut and removed the damaged concrete.
  • 12:15 P.M.: Primer application completed.
  • 12:45 P.M.: Mixing and installation of Delpatch began.
  • 12:55 P.M.: Delpatch installation finished.
  • 2:00 P.M.: The area was reopened to traffic.

Delpatch™ Elastomeric Concrete, a new generation of elastomeric concrete, has two main uses. First, it is an excellent patching material for cracks and spalls on airport runways and highways. Second, Delpatch™ Elastomeric Concrete provides an easy-to-use solution in retrofitting airport runways with lighting.
